REQUIRED CLASS MATERIAL:

MATERIAL COVERED:
Section 1. Applications of differentiation.

Displacement, velocity and acceleration; derivatives and analyses of curves; maximum and minimum applications; fitting a curve to a given set of data; Newton's method for approximating roots; and numerical solutions to some differential equations.


Section 2. Techniques for Evaluating Antiderivatives .

Substitution method; reverse chain rule and chain rule substitution; integration by parts (regular and those by reduction formulae); partial fractions; trigonometric integrals; trigonometric substitution; Weierstrass substitution.


Section 3. Mathematical modeling via definite integrals .

Improper integrals; applications to area & volume; length of a curve; area of surfaces; mass & density; others.


GRADING:
1. Two mid-term exams - 100pts each. 200 points
2. Final exam (See UMM schedule book) 150 points
3. Quizzes (computer & written) - approximately once a week. 75 points
4. Homework (computer & written) - assigned almost daily. 75 points
No make-up quizzes nor late homework will be accepted, unless arrangements are made with the instructor prior to the day of the quiz or the the due date of the homework.
