Determinants of square matrices; properties of determinants; cofactor expansions; some applications - cross-product in tex2html_wrap_inline68 .

5. Eigenvalues and Eigenvectors.

Eigenvectors; eigenvalues; characteristic values and characteristic polynomials; diagonalization of linear transformations and their matrices; applications; eigenspaces (if time permits...).

GRADING:

1. Two exams - 100 points each. 200 points

2. Final exam (see UMM bulletin) 150 points

3. Homework 150 points

( Policy: Homework will be assigned almost daily, and collected almost every Tuesday and Friday; a subset of the problems will be graded. Except for legally documented extenuating circumstances, there will be NO EXCUSES for late assignments will be accepted in this course. Only legible and neatly written assignments will be awarded partial credit. )
