Blasts from the Mulroneys' past.
[The bolded stuff in brackets is the commentary of the poster]
From the ALEXANDRIA JOURNAL, June 28, 1974 (or 1979).
TWO NEW MEMBERS JOIN SCHOOL BOARD
"Two new members will take their seats Wednesday evening after being sworn
in...William D. Euille and Michael Mulroney.
"Mulroney, a partner in a law firm in the District of Columbia, is well
acquainted with the city schools. He has five children attendinv [sic]
them.
"Mulroney has expressed concern over a pass-fail grading system, saying he
did not know what effect it would have upon a student when applying to
college or for a job."
[Pro-rigor. Cool. Or maybe he was just looking to the day when the
urchins would apply to Harvard, Northwestern, the Royal Academy of
Dramatic Arts...]
[Now check this out. This is GREAT!]
July 5, 1974 (or 9) (running the paragraphs together)
"The board set July 19 as an orientation day for both old and new members
to get better acquainted and receive a briefing on school business. When
Chairman Brooks attempted to firm up arrangements for the gathering at the
Ramada Inn, new member Mulroney countered with the suggestion that
taxpayers' money might be saved by moving the activity to the school
administration building. With a proposed lunch, intermission and dinner
scratched, he added, a 'half day of work' also could be saved. Alison May
remarked that some members might like to eat and Mulroney suggested they
could send out for sandwiches."
[HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA I'm in love. At this moment I
love this family dearly.]
"Chairman Brooks observed at this point that Mulroney also had suggested
that he have a plastic (rather than the regulation brass) nameplate placed
in front of his seat on the board if it could save money."
[Eventually a compromise was reached...half a day at the Radisson with
dinner. Mike served on the Buildings & Grounds, Finance, Instruction, and
Grievance subcommittees.]
[And check this out. The picture of the board members includes a Carlyle
C. Ring, Jr. So, there's community leaders Michael and Carlyle in the
paper...and Dermot and Rusty in the yearbook (see
http://cda.morris.umn.edu/~webbrl/mulroney.html to see Dermot and his student
government cronies).]
[As for Mike...Kieran looks just like him. And he bears a striking
resemblance to Darrell Nelson (recent Seinfeld character... a show on
which Kieran has appeared. How gestalt).]
